      * What is Xfire?

Game server browsers to help you find game servers to play, but leave you on your own when playing with your friends. Players regularly deal with the hassle of finding a game server to play together and have to resort to cutting and pasting server IP addresses or call others.

We believe in Xfire games must be played instead of focusing on central game server. It's fun, more simply to play with your friends than it is to play in a game of chance server against foreigners. Have information from the server browser Xfire standard (eg, ping, number of players, maps, etc.), but we show when and what games your friends are playing, what server they are playing, and you can join your server a click of a button.

      * How I can make suggestions for improvement or enhancement of Xfire?

Xfire could not exist without your help and support. Do you have an incredible idea? Heck, I have a slight improvement? Then, we'd love to hear it! Create a thread in our Tips section functions of the forums and tell us all about it!

      * Is it pronounced X-fire or crossfire?

      It is pronounced X-Fire.

      * How I can install Xfire?

The installation is a breeze. Detailed instructions for installation in the Xfire Download page of the Xfire website. [Top]

      * I did not choose to have the Xfire put shortcuts on the desktop and system tray during installation, but I changed my mind. How to create shortcuts now?

Having a single button to create shortcuts for Xfire is something that can come along the way to a future version, but for now will have to do it the old fashioned way. Xfire default installation location is "C: \ Program Files \ Xfire." Navigate there, or wherever you decided to install it in reality. Click Xfire.exe and click "Create Shortcut." You can then put the shortcut on the desktop anywhere in the system tray in Internet Explorer - wherever you might have a sudden desire to start. Alternatively, you can click the icon Xfire.exe, hold down the Alt key and drag anywhere. This will automatically create a shortcut as well.

Xfire * I can define multiple PCs?

Of course! Xfire can install on as many computers as you want (even though Xfire is free and all) and access to any of them. His list of friends and favorite servers follow you everywhere! Now, however, custom status are bound only to the machine that creates them, so you have to think in new, one-liners to use in each system. But you can configure Xfire at home, on your laptop, at work, and the team of your friends. The small facility makes it easy to download anywhere!

Xfire * I entered and started to update automatically, why?

Xfire normally updates every three weeks. The updates are of course free as Xfire. We are constantly making changes to the Xfire software, such as new features or bug fixes. These changes are for the Xfire software and servers. For this reason, it is an option to disable the update because it may contain critical patches and help ensure stability.

If you are able to receive a file through Xfire Download system then the file will update a few days ahead of everyone else. This means that when we catch up and have the file ready to go and not have to wait to download. Just be updated and you can access immediately.

      * Is there a Macintosh or Linux version of Xfire?

No. While we support the players regardless of operating system at this time we're focusing on working in the characteristics and development of Xfire for Windows based systems only. Perhaps in the future we will port over to other operating systems Xfire, but for now is only for Windows.

      * How I can uninstall Xfire?

Xfire The uninstall process is similar to other Windows programs. Begin to make sure it is completely closed Xfire (Xfire | Exit).

      In Windows XP:
Access the Add / Remove Programs tool (go to Start -> Control Panel and double-click Add / Remove Programs).
Scroll down to Xfire and select from the list by clicking it.
Now click on Remove and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall.
      In Windows Vista:
From Windows (Home) Menu select Control Panel.
Now double click on the "Programs and Features tool" to open it.
Search Xfire in the list of programs and highlight that clicking on it.
Click the Uninstall button "on top of the list and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall.
Remember, the Xfire client must be closed for the uninstall to succeed.

      * Some users have more hours to play "this week" is possible in seven days. Why?

Xfire records of his playing time as "sessions." While Xfire and the game are running are recording this session. Say you leave a game sitting on the main menu of three days. * How I can automatically log on to Xfire when I start my computer?

You have places to see, people of fragments and missions to accomplish. If you type in a username and password eats in his playing time online, we recommend checking the "Save Password" and "Auto-Login" boxes on the logon screen. Now, the next time you log on to Xfire to launch directly into the last user name and password to use.

If you uncheck "Run when Windows starts Xfire" in the installation process, you can always turn this feature after the Tools tab | | General's Xfire client. Check the box next to "Automatically launch Xfire when I start my computer."

      * I am behind a firewall and can not connect to Xfire does not matter what I do. I think I need to configure my firewall, but what port you use Xfire?

Now we are getting technical. First, there is no need to jeopardize your safety in using this service. Xfire uses TCP port 25999, and is connected to the server cs.xfire.com. Making these changes to the firewall, and will soon be online to locate your buddies with the best of them. If still no joy in logging on after playing with firewall changes, as in Technical Support - OPEN forum. Be sure to include relevant information about the firewall (make, model and software version number), and we will work with you until the problem is fixed.

For more in-depth information on what ports does Xfire see the advanced FAQ here: What ports does Xfire?

      * I have Norton Internet Security and I can not connect to Xfire! Why?

From the 2005 edition, go to Norton Personal Firewall. Click Configure. Click Custom Level. Then check the box that says "Enable Access Control alerts." Norton then give you a pop-up which allowed Xfire to connect to the Internet.

You can manually. Configure> Programs tab> Click Add. Go to the xfire.exe. (The default is C: \ Program Files \ Xfire) may also be added to the list also xfire_exception.exe.

You will need to repeat this every time Xfire updates as the firewall, Xfire seen as a new program or modified. [Top]

      * How I can allow Xfire in Windows XP firewall?

Xfire To enable the Windows firewall built into WinXP:

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.
      Double-click Windows Firewall.
      Click the Exceptions tab.
      Click Add Program.
Search Xfire on the list, select it and click OK.
You may have to add also xfire_exception.exe the list as well.

You can also add the connection port on the Exceptions tab Xfire:

      Click Add Port.
In the Name field type: cs.xfire.com
In the Port field type: 25 999
Make sure the TCP radio button is selected.
You may have to re-add to your Xfire list of exceptions each time we update.

      * How I can allow Xfire to McAfee Personal Firewall?

      Open the McAfee Security Center.

      Click Personal Firewall.
Click "View the list of Internet applications."
      Click "New allowed the application."
Go to the Xfire.exe in your Xfire directory and select it.
      Click "OK."
You may have to add also xfire_exception.exe the list as well.

This should allow Xfire to connect. You may have to repeat these steps each time Xfire updates. You can set McAfee to alert you and give you the possibility to allow after the program is "change."

      * Xfire only automatically updated and I can not log in. I get a DNS error or connection timeout. How I can fix this?

This is often caused by security software after Xfire updates or is reinstalled. This is a security measure to prevent programs that have been altered from the connection to the network. Since each Xfire update replaces the exe., Security software sees it as a "new or modified" program.

Even if you've allowed Xfire.exe in your security software, after each update you may need to re-enable the new version of Xfire in the firewall, anti-virus and other programs with "permissions." In some security programs may have to remove the permissions for Xfire completely and restart your PC. The software should prompt you to allow the new version of Xfire.

Restart your PC after the upgrade of permits is usually a good idea because some insurance programs require a reboot for the new permissions to take effect.

If you have completely disabled the firewall and / or security software, please try to re-enable and then make the appropriate permission changes (remove and add again), followed by restarting your machine. Then try connecting again.

If you are not sure how to set permissions, see the online help or documentation that comes with security software "to enable Internet applications" or "leave the program."

If you still have problems after re-allowing Xfire, then please contact our Technical Support - Open Forum and create a new thread with details about your network conditions and the troubleshooting steps in this FAQ that has already proven . It also helps to post a screenshot of your running processes so we can get an idea of what is running on your PC. Order the process list by the name of the image and make sure that we can see clearly the full name of the files. Exe in the list. If it takes two screenshots to see the full list is fine.

We hope this FAQ helped you get re-connect to Xfire!

      * Xfire just freezes when I connect! What is causing this?

Some anti-spyware programs like "Spyware Doctor" or "Stopzilla" Xfire see as a threat and stop the process before it can connect to the Internet. This is why Xfire is not working properly or freeze when connected.

To avoid this, be sure to leave xfire_exception.exe Xfire.exe and its anti-spyware programs on the list of exceptions or the list of allowed programs.

For more information about how to do this, please see the online help or documentation that came with your security software.

      * Xfire will not save my user name and password, even if I check "Save Password" box on the login screen. Why?

This typically occurs with non-English versions of Windows. Xfire can not read non-English (ASCII) as ό, з, S. Any letters that are not within AZ, az, 0-9 Xfire, or will be unable to save the required folders to remember your login information.

You can not solve this problem by simply changing your Windows user name, since all user data is now stored in folders with non-English characters. Instead, create a completely new user name for Windows that does not use non-English characters

      * With whom does the information on my Xfire?

Nobody. We are not the type of company to sell, exchange or share personal information with anyone. Nothing I write to register your username, password and email never leaves our database. The best place to learn how we handle user information is the Privacy Policy page.

      * Why do I have to enter my email address during registration for Xfire? What will you do with my email address?

We are certainly not going to share with anyone, so do not worry. However, for the safety of our users, Xfire does not respond to e-mail address you specify. This is especially important if you lose your password and need to recover, or when updates are available for download. Remember, we're not in business to sell, exchange or share information of our users with third parties. We are in business to make your online gaming and friend filled stress-free as possible. If you need to check our Privacy Policy, This tells you how we handle user information.

      * When I write in my email address to invite friends to use Xfire, do the spam emails with a future?

We do not maintain contact with their friends addresses until they become registered Xfire users, and certainly not the e-mail spam with the disorder annoying!

      * How I can block another Xfire user messaging me?

If someone is spamming you or abusive, who are on your list of friends, friends of the friends list, or they are in a community that you are a member.

If the user is on your friends list, you must remove highlighting their name and pressing the "Delete" on your keyboard or right click on your name and selecting "Remove Friend."

If you are on your list of friends of friends, right click on its name and select "Block User." You can also get this menu Tools | Friends. This prevents the blocked user to send instant messages, chat, voice chat and friend invites. You can also do so from the instant message window, Actions | Block User.

If you are in your clan / guild / team list, you can lock the same way as you would with a block of Friends of Friends user.

To unblock someone go to Tools Options tab | | Privacy. Highlight your username in the block list and click Delete.

If you want to disable the Friends of Friends of all, go to Tools Options tab | | Privacy and uncheck "Show the friends of my friends."

      * Where I can find my privacy settings and how they work?

Some features of the website are really miniprofile Xfire and controlled from the Xfire client software.

To reach the privacy settings, go to Tools Options tab | | Privacy. The list of options and their functions are:

Show the data on my game server - Displays the IP address and other data on the server is currently playing.
track kill / death statistics to display in the profile - Xfire allows to collect kills and deaths for the games that are compatible with Xfire game statistics. See here for more information: Statistics Game FAQs

Lets Show my voice chat server for my friends - friends to see your IP address Teamspeak or Ventrilo.
Show people when I write for them - it shows a notification message window when writing a message to a friend.
Idle State - Used to set the time of her condition Xfire AFK (Away from keyboard)

      * Why does my security software such as Xfire detect a keylogger?

The file is actually causing this false positive is xfire_toucan_xxxxx.dll. This dll is hooked into windows looking to the keyboard and mouse activity. The reason for doing this is for our 'auto-afk "feature can be activated in the Tools Options tab | | Privacy. In order to know whether you are afk, we have to control the keyboard.

Toucan also use to do in the game messaging. Inside the game is actually injected into every running process to determine whether this is a game, and if it is a game, whether it is compatible with XIG and should 'hook' for the process.

      * How do I prevent my spam filter inbox from blocking emails Xfire?

By registering your Xfire account, you should receive a welcome message from us. Other than that, usually only Xfire will send you an email if you request it. Those cases that are "Lost Password" and "verification email" to use the Xfire site features such as clans and guilds.

Two of the free email services are most popular Hotmail and Gmail. We will list the steps to add noreply@xfire.com (Xfire emails) to the "white list" for the two services.

For Gmail: Xfire emails are usually sent directly to the Gmail inbox. However, if you want to make sure you get our emails:

      * I really want to use Xfire In-Game, but I have a Scroll Lock key on my keyboard. Is there a fix so that I can change the keys?

Yes! You can define your own two key combination to open the Xfire In-Game Interface.

      Here's how:
Go to the Tools menu in Xfire.
      Choose the options.
Click on the Xfire In-Game tab.
Find the Xfire In-Game Keys button and click it.
Now hold the combination of two keys and release them to do so.
      Click OK and you're done.
The next time you run a game of the new combination of keys have no effect. You also have to press the keys in the order you set them.

      * When I receive messages in game or try to send one the Xfire In-Game interface is blurry. What I can do to fix this?

This problem occurs if anisotropic filtering is enabled on your game. Currently, the only workaround for this problem is to turn off Anisotropic Filtering in your game (s).

We know this is a less than ideal workaround, and we are digging into the problem. If we can find a solution without doubt put it out with an update.

On a side note, apparently Anti-Aliasing seems to cause this problem to occur.

      * I'm using Windows 98/SE/ME and I can not get Xfire in-game messages or use Scroll Lock + X. Why?

Xfire In-Game is no longer compatible with Win9x systems

      * How I can enable or disable continuous in-game messaging?

Starting a game. Press Scroll Lock + X (or whatever key link) to display the menu in the game.

Press F2 (Menu). Selection 2 (game you are playing options.)
Selection of 4 (Enable continuous / standby mode).
      Press Enter to confirm.

      * Xfire In Game messaging does not work for me at all. Why?

A number of factors that allow Xfire to run along with their games and send and receive messages from within the game. What you need to check on your system are:
What operating system? (Vista, XP, Windows 7, etc. ..) Is your OS 32-bit or 64 bit?
Xfire In-Game messaging is currently only compatible with Windows Vista, XP and 2000. If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista or XP, some games will run 64-bit mode and Xfire will not be able to detect them at all.
      What Xfire Skin?
Some older User created skins do not have the latest help in the game if at all. Xfire skin (default), Standard skins and Combat, and tested by Xfire and always guaranteed to work with Xfire In-Game.
What game is not working? (List them if more than one - do not say 'All games')
Is this game in the Games support page? (Currently more than 200 in support of game)
Is the game on your Xfire Tools | Launch and can be launched from there?
What is your key bind set to? (Tools> Options> Xfire In-Game tab.)
What is at stake messaging enabled? (Tools> Options> Xfire Xfire In-Game Enable> tab '. In the game' Requires Exit and restart Xfire.)
Can this game run on different modes of representation? (Example: CS 1.6 runs in both OGL and D3D9)
If so, what processor is running?
What you have Xfire processor set for this game? (How I can change the Xfire in game processor for my game?)
      Are you using Fraps?
Fraps is a video recording application software. Earlier versions do not work well with OGL games and Xfire which could cause low fps or blockages. If you are running the latest versions of Fraps, Xfire will detect it and not hook into your game. This will XIG Images and stop working
Are you running a "No CD" patch or a mod to start the game?
If the game uses a file. Exe to start the game, there is a possibility that Xfire will not detect it.
Do you have Xfire working on the game for any of your other games? (List)
What video card are you using?
What driver version for the video card?
      What version of DirectX?
If run through the steps outlined here and still can not get messages in the game, copy and paste the above questions and answers in Technical losSoporte - OPEN section of our forum with the subject "XIG not work -" To we can solve the problem.

      * What is the new interface in the game and how do I use?

As of Xfire 1.77, we added Xfire In-Game 2.0 for Dawn of War and the Winter Assault and Dark Crusade expansion pack. We plan to add a few games at a time until all our possible * XIG XIG games supported using 2.0.

XIG 2.0 looks and works more like the Xfire client out of play, including the ability to use the mouse to drag the skin around the screen, change the size of your friends list, chat window and window warning .

      * Some games which currently support XIG may not be able to use the new system in the game.

      * Nothing happens when I try to send a message to view All Chats. Why?

The opinion of all the chats you can see all incoming messages in a window. To post a message in this view, you must specify that the user wants to send a message to a t / (say) or msg / (message) command (/ tell also works). You must use the name of his friend the user, not the nick name when writing for them. Here's an example:

If you are involved in the chat with "[] Xfire mfive" and "[Xfire] Wyndairn" at the same time and want to respond to a message of "[Xfire] mfive" wrote:

/ Msg mfive "your message here"
      Or:
/ T mfive "your message here"

      Without the quotes.

      * What skins support Xfire In-Game 2.0?

Currently, the three skins that come with the Xfire software is the only official support XIG 2.0 skins.
These skins are the shadows, Xfire and Standard.

      * When I play Starcraft with Xfire In-Game enabled me black bars on my screen. How I can fix it?

It is likely that run on a DirectX 10 compatible graphics card. This is actually a known problem with Xfire in-game DDraw processing mode and DX10 supported cards.

Unfortunately, the only solution is to turn off Xfire In-Game messaging.

To disable In Game messaging for individual games:
Make sure to close games that are running.
In Xfire, go to the tab Tools | Options | Games.
In games installed, select the game title you want to disable in-game messaging.
      Click the Advanced button.
      Check "Disable Xfire In-game."
No Exit or log off is required for this change.

The next time you start the game, XIG should be disabled. [Top]

      * How I can change the Xfire in game processor for my game?

Xfire in Game messaging will only work if both your game and Xfire is using the processor itself. Some games may be provided in multiple modes (D3D8, D3D9, D3D10, OGL, etc ...). We must determine that your processor is running the game in. You can find this information in the video options in your game.

Then make Xfire is set to that same processor:
Open Xfire and go to Tools | Options | Games.
Select your game in the 'List Installed Game' by clicking on it.
Once your game is outlined that can use the phrase "drop-down menu of the game processor 'to select between modes of making available.
      Click Apply.
      Click OK.
      Restart Xfire (Xfire | Exit).
Note that the modes are only fulfilling the two criteria appear in the dropdown list:
Your graphics card must be compatible with the way we do and
Xfire should be compatible with the way you do that for this game
If only one processor meets both of the above criteria, the drop down menu will be gray (disabled) and the processor that uses Xfire will be displayed but will not be able to change it.

Remember, some games may be provided in ways that Xfire does not support yet (for example, The Lord of the Rings Online can be represented in DX10 mode, but Xfire is not compatible with DX10 for this game yet.) In this case you can still use Xfire in Game features if you have your game on Xfire rendering mode that is compatible.

      * I'm trying to download files from Xfire. Each time you click "Download Now" which can be opened Xfire? Why?

The first thing to consider is what Xfire skin are you using? Most of that age or User created skins do not have a "files" tab and do not support the Xfire download system.

The "official" Xfire skins are guaranteed to work with the Xfire download system. These skins are the Shadows (default) and Xfire.

My download * Xfire says 99% complete, but is still in the category of active interest and sources. Why?

If a file downloaded from Xfire says "99 or 100%" to try to right click on the name of the file and selecting "Stop download", then right click again and "Start download." This will make it Xfire to find new sources immediately or move the file to its complete state. You can also do this log out of Xfire and log back.

      * Why is Xfire file download did not ask to download?

Check the categories on the Files tab.

You may inadvertently subscribed to a feed that automatically delivers content via the Xfire download system. Just click on it and "Unsubscribe the channel.

Delete all unwanted files in the folder C: \ Program Files \ Xfire \ downloads folder. Set the download options for "disabled" to prevent this in the future. The discharge throttle settings are in Tools> Options> Files tab.

      * I can add or upload my own files with the Xfire Download system?

No. We control all content for the Xfire download system to ensure we are offering to clean files Xfire users.

Feel free to send a link to something you created and can be reviewed. If CMS feels it is appropriate and something the user will enjoy Xfire, you may contact and add the download system.

      * What are these. Dat in my downloads folder?

When you select a file to download, the first thing you see in your Xfire Files tab is "Getting metadata." This adds an entry to fileids.ini files.

Then add a temporary file in the download folder. This is the dat file .. What this. Dat does is restrict the disk space required for the file you are downloading. This gives way no matter what other functions or files you are working on your machine, not run out of disk space for download.

If you still have to download Xfire actively in their files tab, you will not be able to delete the dat. File as it is "in use" by Xfire.

Once the download is complete, the. Dat is automatically deleted.

      * Why is Xfire downloading data? What burden?

Xfire system is a P2P file system. If you download files from Xfire and left to the default settings to download below, are eligible to be "shared" with others through the file system Xfire.

If you do not want to share files:
Move the files in the download folder when complete.
Set your options in Tools | | Archives setting to "Disabled.
If you disable the download of Xfire, you'll still receive interim updates the game to support the latest games and Xfire updates via P2P, but will not be shared with the Xfire network.

Remember, if everyone just downloaded the files you want and then set those options to disabled, the file system would be considerably slower.

      * Why I can not send a file using Personal File transfers?

There are two probable cases when sending a file through Xfire would not work for you.
You or the person receiving the file is run Xfire skin older that does not support file transfers personal.
      Behind firewalls are incompatible.
The way to check if it is related to firewall is to find out what "type of NAT are both users. To check this, go to page file, open the information view, scroll to the bottom, you should see NAT Check Failed. If both users are NAT type 3 malfunction. For more information on how to solve this problem, see:

How to forward a port to allow P2P Xfire. [Top]

      * I have automatic downloads or patches but I'm not getting patches, why?

You will receive automatic patches when a new patch is released for a game that your client detects Xfire.

A new patch usually stays in the system for about two weeks. So if you install a game, while the review is still alive, should be pushed automatically on channel patches.

If there are no patches currently on the channel, you can go to the Xfire Files page and search for the title of the game. We try to have patches available for most games that we support and which usually have the latest patches for the most popular titles of Xfire.

      * I can not download files at all on Xfire, why?

See more details in the Advanced FAQ here:

      http://www.xfire.com/faq # 170

      * How I can send a file directly to a friend with Xfire?

Personal Xfire file transfers use the same P2P network as the Xfire Download system.

Here's how to send a file:
Right-click on a friend on your friends list
      Click Send File.
You should get a window to select the file you want to send. Find the file and click OK.
Then get the file transfer confirmation window. Here you can add a little text to describe the file and select "Use the rate cap." This means that the personnel file transfer rate respect the download settings in the Options tab of Tools | | files.
Click OK. You should get a chat window to your friend that says "File Transfer Application. Waiting for reply"
At this point, your friend then click OK and select a directory to save the file in. The file transfer should start.

If at any time either the user disconnects or logs off, partial file transfers can be resumed if the sender sends the same file again.

      * Xfire tried to download an update, but gets stuck halfway and not finish the download. What I can do?

Sometimes dial-up users or unstable connections are unable to complete the updates through the Xfire client itself. The good news is there another way to update your Xfire client!

If you have problems updating through the Xfire client, try the following:
(Without uninstalling) Download the full installer from here.
Install it on your current copy of Xfire.
If there has been some "game updates since its launch last customer will need to download the game update in addition to supporting the latest games supported.
That's it! You should be all day without waiting for the Xfire client to download

      * How I can use the new Xfire Voice Chat feature?

First you must have a microphone and speakers are working (or headset / microphone headset) connected to your computer sound card. It's a good idea to test the microphone and speaker levels before starting a voice chat. You can do this by going Tools> Options> Voice tab and clicking on the button 'Test' there.

There are several ways to start a voice chat but they all start pointing out a friend on your friends list. Left click on the "Mic" button in the information view the main client or instant message window will open a chat window to his friend with an incoming voice call. Once you accept the call, you can start voice chat!

You can also reach this menu by right clicking on a friend or selecting Tools Friends | | call.

      * Why do I hear my voice echoing on my headphones when the voice chat with someone?

It is likely that the friend is speaking with the voice is a combination of headphones and a sensitive microphone. What the hearing is the sound of headphones to go back through your microphone.

The best way to tone this down is that his friend adjust your headset volume and, possibly, the microphone sensitivity as well.

      * My friend sent me a voice chat invite and I did not understand. Why?

Xfire voice chat uses a peer to peer. It is possible that you and your friend are both behind firewalls that are not compatible. If you think this may be the case, try 25 777 port forwarding on your router or firewall. Details in the FAQ here.

      Another possibility:

Already a voice chat with someone else? You currently can only voice chat with a friend or chat room at a time on Xfire voice chat.

      * How I can voice chat with more than one person?

Since version 1.46 has been implemented enabled Xfire voice chat rooms.

To enable it, start a new chat room or join a room from the tab persistent servers. Select the "Actions" menu in the Chat window. Then select "Host Voicechat."

You are now the exchange between the host's own voice chat. You can use the "Actions" menu to disable and enable the microphone, but continue to host others in the room.

If you select "Stop Hosting", all voice chat stops, until someone in the chat room you select "Host Voicechat" and becomes the host. Only those with a level of advanced user permissions or higher can receive voice chat.

This feature is new and still in active development that his opinion on the suggestions of films and Tech Support Forums will help us to enhance Voice Chat on Xfire for future updates.

      * My microphone headset is not working with Xfire Voice chat. Why?

Check the drop down menus in Tools> Options> Voice tab. Make sure the device you are trying to use is selected in the entry and exit areas.

If you have a device that is installed properly and work with other programs, but not Xfire to find it, please send some details like the make and model number of the device in our Technical Support - OPEN forum and we will check into it.

      * How do I disable the phone "ringing" sound when I receive a voice invite?

To mute the ringer, go to Tools Options tab | | Chat. Uncheck "Play a sound when: I can send or receive voice chat applications."

      * Why does Xfire say "low quality" when the voice chat though I have my options with the highest quality?

Xfire negotiate the fit between the two users in voice chat. An example would be if the options are set to the highest quality and we will send an invitation to a friend who is set to "medium quality" Xfire voice chat set to 'the position of Media' to accommodate the user bandwidth lowest.

      * Xfire is set to play a sound when I get a request for voice chat, but I do not hear in my USB headset. Why?

To listen to the sound of the ringtone when receiving a voice call Xfire, you must set the USB headset as default device in Windows XP.

      To do this:

Go to your Windows Start menu | Settings | Control Panel.
Double click Sounds and Audio Devices.
      Click the Audio tab
Drop-down menu of "Sound Playback Default Device:" select the USB headset.
      OK

You should now hear the bell for incoming voice calls in the USB headset.

      * How I can start a chat room?

Start by right-clicking on any friend and selecting "Invite a new chat room. Your friend must be using a skin that supports Xfire Chat rooms to receive the invitation. The default Xfire skin always work.

Once a chat room started you can invite more friends, set permissions, configure the voice and save it to your Xfire Servers tab (room persistent) so you can always join the conversation. All this is done in the Actions menu in the Chat window.

For a visual explanation of these features, check out Chat Rooms Product Tour Xfire!

      * I can not voice chat in all Xfire, why?

See more details in the Advanced FAQ here:

      http://www.xfire.com/faq # 170

      * I can answer a voice call while in a game?

If you are running Xfire In-Game 2.0 support the skin (Shadow, Standard, Xfire) by 2.0 Xfire supported game, then you can answer 1-1 voice calls by clicking the phone icon in the interface or by pressing Scroll Lock XIG T.

      * How I can add screenshots to my Xfire Profile page?

Xfire First release and any game that has Xfire In-Game support messages. Then, while in the game to take screenshots by pressing Scroll Lock + S (This may be reassigned to a single key or a combination of different keys Tools> Options tab | | Chat).

When you exit the game, you are presented with the Images dialog box Xfire. subtitles Here you can see the pictures he had taken, choose which load, and even add! Xfire can only take screenshots in games that have Xfire In-Game messaging support. For a list of those games, see our Games Page.

If you have a virus detection program that has real-time file scanning or protection, this will scan all files residing in your screenshots and the download folder. This makes Xfire to appear glued to log in.

      * Why does Xfire Game Statistics (Kill / Death stats) feature removed?

Unfortunately, this particular feature was not working as expected. For many users playing multiple games, the statistics were not recorded accurately or not tracking at all due to a number of factors, mods and settings on the server side.

We review the development of this feature again in the future, but for now it was decided it would be better to remove it.

This type of problem can be avoided by ensuring:
Do not promote community members to their own series unless someone you know and can trust.
Make sure you configure your community and the rank permissions before inviting people. You can set the default range of new recruits from the administrator tool the community as a community Web site. Make sure the default ranking members of the community start at does not have administrator privileges.
Any range can assign administrator privileges. If you choose to designate another member of the community administrator privileges, make sure you are assigned a lower rank than his own. This prevents them from being able to remove from his own clan if any disputes and disputes arise later.
If you forgot to take these precautions or his clan was somehow compromised and you are the founder of their community, please contact support@xfire.com. Please include your Xfire user name, a link to your Xfire clan and a brief description of the problem and how it happened.

      * While using Xfire I tried to launch / join a game and my game crashed. Why is this happening?

This problem is probably due to Xfire In-Game messaging. Xfire In-Game is the technology that now allows you to send and receive messages in their games (if supported). Because this is a very complex feature, there is the possibility that some users may have compatibility problems.

The first test we recommend is for you to try to disable Xfire In-Game system to see if this solves the problem of crashing. To do this, follow these simple steps:

Xfire Access, click the Tools menu and select "Options."
When the options screen appears, click the "Chat" tab.
Find the checkbox that says "Enable Xfire In-Game" on and off.
Click the "Ok" button at the bottom of the screen options
Exit Xfire completely. A closed session will not be enough to make this change happen. Xfire should leave the settings to take effect.
Restart Xfire, a session and re-start / join a game to see if it works.
If after performing the above steps, the game runs well, then the problem was with the Xfire In-Game system. To help you troubleshoot why your system does not work in the game, we need a little information about your system. There are two log files that can be published or sent to us to help us diagnose the problem.

The first file is generated by Direct X. To create this log file, you must follow these steps:

      Go to your Start menu
      Select "Run"
When the Run dialog, type "dxdiag.exe" outdoors ":" field and click the button "ok".
When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, click the button that says "Save All Information."
Click "Save" in the "Save as" screen to create a file on the desktop that is called Dxdiag.txt

The second log file is generated by Xfire, but you have to follow these steps to create it:

Be sure to leave the game. It may even be helpful to restart the computer before creating the log file.
Xfire game back in the mail again. Message (Tools> Options | | Chat section. Check Show chat in the game. Exit and restart Xfire)
In Xfire click Tools | Options tab | General.
      Click the Advanced button.
Select the "Debugging in the game."
Click OK | Click OK again.
Exit Xfire completely and restart Xfire.

You receive a message in the advanced options are selected. This is to remind you to turn off when you are done creating the debug log.

Start the game you are having problems with Xfire Tools | Launch.
Once in the game, press your key combination to activate XIG (Scroll Lock X)
Exit out of the game and Xfire.
After the game does not, exit Xfire, and go to your Xfire application data directory (For Windows XP users the path is C: \ Documents and Settings \ your Windows username \ Application Data \ Xfire. For Vista, C: \ Users \ windows user name \ AppData \ Roaming xfire \), and must have a file called "xfire_toucan_log.txt." Copy this file to your desktop with the Dxdiag.txt file that you created in the previous steps.

Now that you have created both these files, send an email with two registers as an attachment, the game's title, a link to his thread on our forums for technical support and a brief description by what happens exactly (reports errors, etc.) to support@xfire.com with the subject line "in the recordset - title of the game." Once we have received the log files, our engineering team will look through them to find out why this is happening.

Be sure to advanced options and disable debugging in the game once they have removed the log files. Continuing to append the debug log can cause performance problems on Xfire.

Once we complete our research on the subject will get back to your forum thread with more information.

      * Every time I try to send a message to a friend or send me a message Xfire accident. Why is this happening?

Unfortunately this problem is almost always linked to a virus or spyware known as a browser helper object (BHO) on the computer. The reason they say almost because the only instance of this happening has been a conflict with Earthlink Total Access 2005. Earthlink has released a patch for its software that corrects the problem.

If you are using Earthlink and have this problem, a virus is trying to inject into the Internet Explorer windows or controls that is failing Xfire.

We will explain in more detail. The expanded InfoView (pop out the window on the side of Xfire and chat windows) in Xfire is an Internet Explorer control. By default, the extended InfoView is open a chat window. This is when the virus tries to inject into our own control IE window, causing the crash, and showing an exception report.

We do not have a definitive solution to this problem because we are not experts in virus removal.

If you have a virus scanning application, get the latest updates and try to clean it and remove it. You can also try SpyBot S & D, Adaware, or this kidnapping! to remove spyware at your own risk.

      * I think Xfire is not tracking my hours of play. What is causing this?

There are a couple of separate things that can affect this. The first thing to do is make sure that the game is compatible with Xfire. Just visit the Xfire games page on this site to confirm if the game is compatible.

The next step is to determine whether or not Xfire know that you have the game installed and is monitoring the hours for you. To do this, add yourself as a friend, start the game in question, now Alt Tab of your game and see the status of Xfire. Do note that the game is running?

If not displayed in the game, then Xfire probably has no idea that you have the game so you do not record your playing time. Go to Tools | Release, and watch the games installed. If you can not find the game on the list:
Go to the Tools tab | | Games.
Find the games you have in your system in the 'Not Installed "list.
Highlight the name of the game and the "Manual Setup" radio button.
      Click Browse. "
Locate the folder that contains the file. Exe for that game and click "OK."
      Click 'Apply'.
Check your Tools | Start menu to verify that the game is now detected.

If the game has been detected while playing and found it in the list of launch, which is being tracked. The reason for their profile page Xfire.com not seem to display the time is because statistics are not updated until you exit your game and Xfire stops detecting it. When you start a game that starts a "session" and when you exit the game finally put an end to the session. " Once that happens the amount of time played is sent to their Xfire profile page and be updated instantly or within a few minutes.

Finally, if the game listed for release, but fails to detect when the game is running, please post in the Technical Support - OPEN section of our forums describing the issue and that game happens so that we can solve the problem.

      * When I see my mini-profile that has held a number of hours my actual profile does. Which is correct?

His main profile should always have the correct amount of hours played if the game is being detected by Xfire. To serve the most efficient mini-profile to be cached unless they are playing a game at that time. The correct statistics will show in your mini-profile shortly after it has been updated to your main profile.

      * I'm getting parse errors while I run Xfire. Why is this happening?

Your installation of Xfire can not successfully updated the last time you patched.

      Try the following:
Exit Xfire completely if it is running.
Go to your Xfire base installation directory (default location is C: \ Program Files \ Xfire).
Find and open the file xfire.ini. For users of Windows Vista, see: http://www.xfire.com/faq/ # 228
Change the version XX = an integer less than it currently is.

Example: Your current entry is Version = 30. Change this to Version = 29.

      Save the file.
Now run Xfire, this change will force it to return to update and correct any problems that may of happened the last time you updated.

      * Why does my mini-profile that I have "chosen not to display this data?

The mini-profile is linked to your privacy settings in the Xfire client.

To display the information in your mini-profile, simply do the following:
      Start-up Xfire.
      Go to the Tools menu.
      Select Options.
      Select the Privacy tab.
Matters of state make sure "Show on my profile and miniprofile" is checked.
Your mini-profile will now display all of it is information.

      * I am trying to use an avatar for your website. Only appear on my profile and not in my mini-profile, why?

Actually this is correct behavior. If you are using a custom Avatar only be displayed on your profile page. Do not be displayed on your profile Mini-as you have noticed. We have done this for several reasons. One is because doing so may possibly delay our web servers. It also allows can cause problems if the image is too large or is something that is inapproprate, etc ...

      * Why I can not use Xfire to join a server if my game is already running?

The way to work immediately binding is through the so-called command-line parameters. These command lines should be used in conjunction with the release of the file. Exe for that game. If the game is already running there is no way to pass a command-line statement for that game.

Some games handle this better than others. Most will tell you that you already have an instance of the running game. Simply turn the game and use Xfire to join the server in question you're about to join. [Top]

      * How I can join a friend on Xfire TeamSpeak or Ventrilo?

Currently, Xfire supports two voice chat programs, Teamspeak and Ventrilo. You can download these programs here:

      Teamspeak

      Ventrilo

Once you get them installed, run and Xfire and Teamspeak or Ventrilo should appear in the list of launch as a game would.

Teamspeak and Ventrilo have "one click join" support through Xfire. So if you have a friend and a TeamSpeak or Ventrilo chat server, click on its name and select Join Teamspeak (or Register Ventrilo). You can also get this menu, go to Tools Friends | | Join Teamspeak or the Actions menu in a chat window.

Join If the option is gray, no IP address. Make sure you or your friend speaks for about 10-20 seconds to Xfire to see the network traffic to the TS / Vent server. Also check out the Xfire Tools> Options | | privacy menu and make sure you have "Show my voice chat server to my friends" checked.

      * Join my play button is gray and can not join games. Why?

The first thing to check is if the game you are trying to join Xfire is supported by a set of dual use. Some games like Everquest, Diablo II, and Ravenshield can not join through Xfire. For a complete list of what games are compatible with Xfire and the games are coupled to the next link:

      One Click Join

The next step is to make sure you have Xfire know the game you are trying to join. The easiest way to find out is go to Tools | Launch. Is the game show that is trying to play there? If the game is there, you can start the game from there? If the game is not listed or able to be launched from that menu:

Go to the Tools tab | | Games.
Find the games you have in your system in the 'Not Installed "list.
Highlight the name of the game and click Browse.
Locate the folder that contains the file. Exe for that game and click "OK."
      Click 'Apply'.
Check your Tools | Start menu to verify that the game is now detected.

If you can start the game through Xfire, which is a good sign. Now when you highlight your friend that you want to join was extended information view displays the IP address of the server you are playing? If there is a list of IP addresses that you will not be able to join.

      * How I can change the Xfire auto reconnect time?

You can not change at this time.

The idea of self-reconnection so that people who are AFK get a random time that will be reconnected and the people who are on your computer you can click "Connect Now."

      * When I run Xfire my computer loses network connectivity with other computers on my network. Xfire is causing this?

This is due to a limitation in a network device as a router. This is commonly seen in wireless devices.

By accessing Xfire that sends queries to all servers in your Friends and Friends of Friends are playing at. When these queries return, routers internal tables can not properly handle the data and shut down your network connection.

The known solutions for this problem are:

      1. Update the firmware of the router. Contact your router manufacturer for updated instructions.

      2. Turn off the option of Friends of Friends. (Tools> Options | | Privacy tab. Uncheck the "Show the friends of my friends").

      2. Turn off the notification in writing. (Tools> Options | | Privacy tab. Uncheck the "Show people when I write for them").

      3. Try disabling the Xfire download system. (Tab Tools | Options | Files. Set all to "Disabled").

If these things do not improve your connection with Xfire you can ask for you to send the following information in our Technical Support - OPEN forum.

What is the exact text of error message you get from Xfire?
When the connection is lost Xfire? (Get the list of friends?, Initializing?)
What type of connection? (Cable, DSL, 56k?)
What kind of software firewall or router is using?
Do you have a package of security software such as Norton or Zone Alarm and if so, what version?

      * My Source Counter-Strike and Half Life 2 does not apply in the Games tab. Why?

Xfire In order to detect any Steam games, you should have run the game at least once to create the directory and the GCF file. After a Steam update may be needed to run again for Xfire to auto-detect.

The xfire_games.ini also looking for certain criteria.
One of the keys dir in your registry that points to where you installed steam.
A pitcher. Exe (which would Steam.exe), located in the path specified in your registration.
A suggestion to "install", which is a common file of a given directory games.
A "detect. Exe", which is the executable that runs when you're playing the game.

Now, if your registry key does not match the location of your steam.exe, their Steam games will not be automatically detected and, possibly, may not be applied using the tools of Options | | Games tab.

What we suggest is to go to your Start menu, click Run and type "regedit" and click OK. This opens the Registry Editor window.

The registry key that seeks to detect your games Xfire Steam is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Valve \ Steam \ InstallPath

To find this key, follow these steps:
      Open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder
      Open the Software folder
Scroll down and open the folder of the valve and then open the folder for Steam
In the right pane of the Registry Editor, you will see a key that says "InstallPath" (this is the original way in which you installed Steam).

If the 'path' contained in the above registry key does not match where they have currently installed Steam, Xfire will not detect it. Double click the registry key InstallPath modify it and change the path to reflect in steam now resides in your system.

Once the registry key matches the directory where the Steam.exe is, will have to exit and restart Xfire to "automatically" detect the installed version of Steam games.

Alternatively, you can uninstall and reinstall steam if you feel comfortable or confident in their ability to change a registry key. Doing this will require the installation of vapor to re-create the record labels, and then if it detects no problems Xfire.

Also, if you are running Windows XP, 64, automatically Steam games require Steam to run 64-bit mode and Xfire can not detect. We are studying the possibility of releasing a client compatible with 64-bit Xfire in the future.

      * What is this Xfire update my data in files and why do I download it?

This is how the updates downloaded and why we started using this method.

We promote the program to update files automatically, a day before resetting the Xfire service. Still will get it if you download with disabilities, but will not be shared (uploaded) to the Xfire file system.
No need to try to execute this file. Run automatically when you reset the service and log back in.
If you rename and run the upgrade program before restarting the Xfire service, some features will not work due to changes in server protocol. (Example: Chat Rooms)
We started using this method to speed up the process for those who re-enter immediately after the resumption and already has the update program on your Xfire folder. This also improves the bandwidth on our side for those who are connected again and upgrade to the former via HTTP.

      * When I double click the tray icon Xfire, nothing happens, why?

Normally, this can occur when running a game in a different resolution to your desktop or change the size of your desktop while Xfire is minimized. To fix this, first locate the file XfireUser.ini. If you are in WinXP the path is something like this:

      C: \ Documents and Settings \ UserName \ Application Data \ Xfire

The first set of information should look like this:

      [WINDOWPOS]
      LoginLocation = 413x226
      Size = 539x734
      Location = 325x0

Make sure Xfire is not running and remove the three lines [WINDOWPOS]. Save the ini file .. Restart Xfire. This should reset the main window of your default client. [Top]

      * How I can disable or change the default description sounds in Xfire?

You can easily turn off the sounds and going to the Tools menu Options | | Sounds tab. From this menu you can select specific sounds on and off. If you want to manually change the sound, go to your default directory Xfire and go to the Sounds folder. For users of Windows Vista, see: http://www.xfire.com/faq/ # 228

Wav files to replace. In that directory with its own files, the name that matches the appropriate sound event, an Xfire customize your sounds for whatever you want. We will be adding the ability to customize the sounds from within the client in the future, but you can make this change manually at any time.

      * You receive an error message that says "Xfire has detected that xfire_toucan.dll no charge." What does this mean and how I can fix it?

This means that the dll file. Which controls several important functions for the network and Xfire in-game messaging is missing or damaged. To solve this problem:

      Do not uninstall Xfire
      Make Xfire is not running.
Download the latest full install Xfire here.
Reinstall over the existing directory Xfire. Confirm that you want to overwrite the existing installation.
Run Xfire again to make sure that the problem has been corrected.

      * You receive an error message that says "Xfire could not establish a Windows hook." What does this mean and how I can fix it?

This means that Xfire can not interact with Windows properly. However, it is very easy to fix. Simply restart the computer.

Run Xfire and confirm that this error no longer occurs. [Top]

      * Why do hyperlinks appear black in the chat window?

This is due to common control settings in some versions of Windows. Xfire skin uses a black background and Windows tries to "help us to guess what color to display the link.

Here is how to fix this manually in WinXP:

Right click on the desktop and select Properties.
Select the Appearance tab and click Advanced.
Item drop-down menu to go to the selected items.
      Change the font color.
      Click OK, Apply, Ok.

Hyperlinks are now displayed as the color set!

      * I can not see what I'm writing! Why is the text in the chat window turned black?

This problem occurs when you drag the mouse cursor left the field to write.

There is a rich text control that window that says the color of the text should be. If you accidentally delete the control by dragging the mouse over it, the color is set to zero or black.

The normal text color will be reset once you hit enter to send the message.

      * Why do I get a Xfire "No Disk" when installing a new game?

Xfire is in search of running processes that can be a game. If the installation disk contains a file. Exe called Xfire, Xfire is injected into the setup to see if they are actually running a full screen game.

When removing the disk during the installation process, Windows gives an error that says "Hey Xfire was using that record!" although in reality they are not.

To avoid seeing this error message in the future, log off of Xfire while installing any software, especially games.

      * Me Xfire disconnects every few minutes, or when I join a game. How I can fix this?

Xfire uses something called a heartbeat "to see if still connected to the server. In a regular cycle, we send this 'heartbeat' to the server and then the message is received.

If you can not send the message to the server, you get an error talking to him. If you get an error reading from the server, did not receive a heartbeat from the server.

The most likely culprit causing this is an aggressive firewall, router or NAT device. Firewalls and NAT functions that have unused ports closed when not in use for a certain period of time. This is to protect open ports to be hacked.

Most good firewalls / NAT s' will be an adjustment or a timer that can be adjusted to adjust the frequency with which this happens. Older products comes with a default timer of 10 minutes, but the newer ones seem to be set to 5 minutes or less.

If you have a timer for 5 minutes, or have no idea what it is or how to adjust it, you can adjust Xfire place. First, completely exit Xfire, can not be running while you make changes. Once Xfire is not running, you can edit the file Xfire.ini. You can use the "search" function on the start menu to find it, or you can manually located (by default in Windows XP is C: \ Program Files \ Xfire; for Windows Vista that can be found in c: \ \ programdata xfire - this is a hidden folder so you will have to set hidden files and folders to see in the configuration of Windows Vista before it appears).

Once Xfire.ini located the file, double click it to open it in Notepad. You should see something like this:

      [] = 19 803 Toucan Building
      [Xfire]
      Version = 56
      InstallVersion = 43
      UpdateCount = 24
      [] I18N
      LanguageMajor = us
      [] Skin
      Skin = Xfire
      [DNS] Cache
      cs.xfire.com = 204.71.190.24

You will need to add a new line that says:
      PingInterval = 180
You will need to add this in the context [xfire section]. After you've done that, Xfire.ini file should look like this:

      [] Toucan
      Build = 19 803
      [Xfire]
      Version = 56
      InstallVersion = 43
      UpdateCount = 24
      PingInterval = 180
      [] I18N
      LanguageMajor = us
      [] Skin
      Skin = Xfire
      [DNS] Cache
      cs.xfire.com = 204.71.190.24

Save the file and restart your Xfire client. You now have a 3 min 'heartbeat' of time, less than the latest five timers firewall minutes. If you still have problems, you can download the PingInterval 120 or 2 minutes, but that's the lowest that can be adjusted.

Now if you're only getting disconnected while playing, the problem can not be a port to close. To send and receive heartbeat with the server, Xfire requires some CPU time and bandwidth. If your computer is slightly below specifications and playing a game again, you may not have available CPU time and hence the above suggestion could not help.

Finally, all ISPs experience hiccups from time to time. If this happens at the right time, Xfire does not send or receive heartbeats, "and I lost the connection. The solution is something PingInterval oriented user disconnects many times per day or session, and not just once every few days.

      * Why is a high-latency message when I talk to my friends?

This is how it works and why latency message appears:

      1. User 1 sends instant messages to users in February.
      2. IM hits our server and sent to the user 2.
      3. User 2 Xfire client sends message to the server saying "I have instant messaging."

If the server does not receive that message within 8 seconds of sending the user an instant messaging server, a client user says "High latency ..".

This can be caused by anything on that road networks in an end or friends at your side (router, firewall, etc.).

If you get latency "high detected warning" to chat with any of your friends, adjust your configuration file transfer Xfire (Tools> Options | | Files).

If you only get the latency "high detected warning" for a friend or two, have to adjust your Xfire configuration file transfer.

      * Norton Internet Worm Protection continuously displayed while running Xfire. Why?

This is known as a "false positive". Norton is simply alerting you that Xfire is access to the Internet to query game servers and obtain information from their friends list.

To stop this alert to go up, enter the list of domestic programs in the preferences of Norton. If xfire.exe already there, remove and re-add manually xfire.exe sailing in the main directory of Xfire. (C: \ Program Files \ Xfire is the default)

      * I just log off (or updated) Xfire and when I came back in I have an Xfire exception error that repeatedly refers to "system32 \ urlmon.dll. What does this mean and how I can fix it?

Urlmon.dll is a component of Internet Explorer. Xfire uses IE components to display graphics and data in the information view extended Xfire, and other places around the application. When these components are not healthy or not working properly, can cause problems for applications such as Xfire using IE components.

If you recently installed Internet Explorer 7, but have not restarted your machine, this could be the cause of your problem. Just simply restart the computer and once you restart Windows, Xfire launch to see if the problem persists. If the problem persists it could be a faulty update of IE7 (try a reinstall) or a conflict with another program on your system. You should also post in our support forum so we can work with you to isolate and resolve the problem.

      * I get low frame rates in game while running Xfire. Why and how I can fix this?

This is usually caused by another program "hook" in the game in a similar way to Xfire In-Game messaging. Examples include: Earlier versions of FRAPS, Ati Tray Tools DSB the mouse utility applications, basically any other program that can draw on the screen while playing a game.

To fix, you can disable the other application or Xfire In-Game messaging. If you are not sure what application is causing the conflict with Xfire also be a debug log file so we can take a look a.

Instructions can be found in the FAQ here:

      http://www.xfire.com/faq/ # 73

      * Reset the connection of Xfire while playing a game. Are my hours of play lost?

Xfire records of his playing time as "sessions." When Xfire detects no longer playing a game or have been disconnected from the server, the session is sent to us to be saved on your Xfire profile.

If you reconnect the same time in a game, a new session is started. So the time between a disconnect and reconnect would not be counted.

Now you can type / reconnect in Xfire In-game menu to reconnect while active in the game to minimize any loss of hours of their game.

      * Why does Xfire UAC permission at every boot?

Since version 1.78, Xfire will run in a normal "user" level and launch a second process for games that require UAC elevation.

If you have PC games that require elevated permissions to work with Xfire, UAC will prompt you each time you launch Xfire second process.

      * Why does Xfire 'require UAC elevation' for some of my games?

From 1.79 update, Xfire runs two processes, a high (admin) and a non-elevated (the user).

The process begins high, only if you have installed games that we have specified to run high. If one of these games installed, you receive a message letting you know that this second process is underway.

The second process is only for communication, so it only takes about 4 MB of memory, and should have little effect on the CPU on your system.

      * Why are not Windows games (Pinball, Minesweeper, etc) found in Windows Vista 64?

In Vista 64 games as a default run 64-bit process that Xfire can not detect. We may release an Xfire client for 64-bit in the future.

      * I can not find certain files on my Xfire folder more. Why?

When you upgrade from 1.77 to 1.78 in Vista, Xfire migrate certain files and directories in the Xfire root folder to a common data path. The default location is c: \ ProgramData \ Xfire.

The files that are moved are:
      Channels folder
      Download folder
      skins folder
      sounds folder
      Templates folder
      Xfire.ini file
      xfire_games.ini file

The file and folder XfireUser.ini chat logs found in C: \ Users \ username \ AppData \ Roaming \ Xfire.

      * Some of my games are not detected in Windows Vista or XP 64 64. Why?

Xfire is a 32-bit and can not interface with a 64-bit process. We are planning to launch a client compatible 64-bit in the future.

This mainly affects users of Steam from Steam will detect your operating system and the strength of the HL2-based games to run on 64-bit mode. However, there is a modifier of the command line you can add them to return to 32-bit mode. Follow these steps:
In Xfire, go to the tab Tools | Options | Games.
In games installed, highlight the game you want to run 32-bit mode.
In the category "Extra Command Line Parameters" field, add this line:
      -32bit

      Click Apply | Click OK.
Now you should be able to launch this game in 32 bit mode Xfire Tools | Launch.

      • Why is Xfire In-Game does not work on Windows Vista?

As of Xfire 1.78, Xfire will operate at a high or "admin" status. Do not use the "Right-click | Run as administrator" command to start Xfire. This can cause Xfire be unable to detect some games or enable Xfire In-Game messaging.

If you start Xfire "as administrator" and then launch a game from Xfire Tools | Launch, you may be running Xfire and the game at two different levels XIG permits and will not work. If a game needs to be run as administrator, Xfire will launch it that way.

Another possibility is that Xfire have intentionally disabled in the game because of poor performance or accidents View found by our quality control department. To check whether a particular game is not supported on Vista XIG visit this thread in our Tech Support OPEN forum.

If this is not the case for you, take a look at some of the most common reasons other Xfire In-Game could not function. Frequently Asked Questions here:

      http://www.xfire.com/faq/ # 178

      * My opinions customized information (Skins Game) and are not showing up in Vista. Why?

When you upgrade to version 1.78 in Vista, several files were transferred to a common data directory for improved compatibility with Vista. View this item of the FAQ for more information.

Due to the complex nature of migration data, we chose not to move your custom templates in order to protect your data.

      To solve this problem:
Open your template folder in the Xfire root directory (c: \ Program Files \ Xfire).
Custom_infoviews Copy the folder (where are kept all his Skins Game).
Open the Templates folder in the common data directory (c: \ ProgramData \ Xfire \ templates).
Paste your custom_infoviews folder over the empty.
Exit and restart Xfire if it was running.
His play Skins should work normally now.

      * How I can know if my game needs to run high?

This is a simple test to be run out of Xfire (Xfire for output).

Run the game from the shortcut on the desktop or Start menu. If Vista asks for administrator rights, whether mentioning UAC or not this means that the game needs to run high.

      * How I can record videos using Xfire?

Xfire Since version 1.86, we added the ability to record video clips while playing games.

First, please go to Tools> Options | | Video on your Xfire client. Make sure "Enable Video Capture" is checked. Consider this tab also contains all the values of options related to Xfire video capture.

Now start your favorite game that has Xfire In-Game support messages (make sure XIG is working for you.) To start recording, press the default key combination "Scroll Lock + V" and you should see the overlapping of recording appear in the game. This indicates that you are recording. Press Scroll Lock + V to stop recording.

When you leave your game, your video files Xfire tab appears on the files (or the videos tab / button new Xfire skin). You can double click a video on the list for launch. They are playable on the majority. Avi compatible media players.

      * I have enabled video capture, but still can not record. Why?

The most likely reason is that the game you are trying to record does not have Xfire In-Game messaging support. To see a list of games that have Xfire In-Game, service click here:

      Xfire In-Game games supported.

      * When playing my video is only a black screen. Why?

Currently Xfire video capture is not compatible with 16-bit or rendered DDraw games. Examples of this would be Starcraft or more games Need for Speed. This can also happen if you are using VLC media player. VLC does not support the Xfire video codec.

The second most likely reason is that this could happen is a bug in our code and the specific game you are trying to record. Some known examples of this problem is Call of Duty 2 and Eve Online.

We tested with various games and PC configurations, but it is possible to find a game that did not prove its entirety or a specific video card that has problems with rendering certain etc.

We want comments from you on these issues! Please refer to the Technical Support - OPEN forum and a new theme with all relevant details to your problem.

      * Where I can find the video you just recorded?

Once you exit the game, you are presented with a small dialog box confirming the videos you recorded. Then go to the tab videos on your Xfire client.

Here you can right click on the file name and choose to open the file, open the directory where you save, delete (remove), send to a friend or upload it to Xfire.com Xfire for all to see!

Note that you can also change the location of your videos Xfire keeps in the Tools> Options | | Video. [Top]

      * What is the "medium" and "size" options do?

These options relate to the resolution of your video is captured and reproduced in.

For example, if you select "size" and run the game at 1024x768, the video is recorded and played in the resolution.

If you select "medium", and run the game again in the same resolution, the resulting video capture will be played in half of the resolution and file size of the videos will be considerably less. [Top]

      * My games frame rate suffers or becomes unplayable while recording. How I can fix this?

Xfire Video Capture is a pretty intensive process of the CPU. Translation: The better your PC is, the higher quality and resolution you can capture. Users with dual core machines will notice much less of a frame rate during recording of success that users running the single-core machines.

Make sure no other programs that conflict with Xfire are enabled. View: http://www.xfire.com/faq/ # 217. Disable unnecessary programs running in the background is also desirable.

If you notice a considerable loss in frame rate or the game becomes unplayable while using the Xfire video capture, here are some things you can try:

First, go to Tools tab | Video |. Set your options for video capture half the size and select 25 frames per second from the dropdown menu.

It can also help you try to run the game in a lower resolution. If your PC is meeting the minimum requirements to play the game you are trying to record, the added processing required for video capture can cause a remarkable success rate.

If Xfire video capture works great for some of their games, but there is frame rate problems on others, please contact our Technical Support - OPEN forum and a new item with all relevant details.

      * I can not play my videos in VLC media player Xfire. Why?

If you try to play a video in VLC media player Xfire, you'll get nothing but a black screen.

The reason is VLC media player is simply not compatible with the usual Xfire codec yet (xfcodec). Once our codec is approved, may be included in VLC.

      * How I can upload videos that I recorded on my Xfire profile page?

As of Xfire 1.89 update, we added the ability to upload your videos to your Xfire Xfire profile page. Here's how:

Once you have captured some videos, quit the game (this is important because the encoding process requires much CPU power and hard disk writes).
Click the video button in the Xfire client (Files tab of the third age / third-party skins). Highlight the file you want to upload and select Tools | Video | Top Video (or right-click on the file name).
You are presented with a dialog box to add a title and description of your video. These are required fields.
Click OK and this begins the encoding process.
Once encoding is complete, the file will automatically begin charging. Once the loading is complete, your Xfire Info view will be updated and display a thumbnail image that links to the video on your profile page.

      * What is the maximum file size that I can upload?

The current limit is about 200MB or 10 minutes in total.

      * How many videos I can show my Xfire Profile Xfire?

The maximum number of videos you can see in their Xfire profile page is nine.

The maximum data storage Xfire video is 10 GB. So if you are running in very high resolutions the file size will be larger and therefore have less videos in your profile.

      * How I can remove or change the name of my videos I uploaded previously Xfire.com?

Go to www.xfire.com / manage and can delete video files from your profile or change the description.

In a future update, we will make improvements to this page, and the incorporation of remote video data in the Xfire client. [Top]

      * I can not record sound in my videos Xfire! Why?

If you are on Windows Vista, see the FAQ here:

I'm using Windows Vista and I have no sound on my Xfire recorded videos.

If you are running Windows XP, please go to Tools> Options Xfire | | Video. Look in the audio capture options, if you can not select anything on the audio mixer from the dropdown menu the sound card is not likely capable of "full duplex audio."

This means sound recording and playback simultaneously.

You may be able to convert your sound card to a compatible sound card with DirectSound full-duplex when installing the latest sound driver for your sound card. Contact the manufacturer of your sound card for information about obtaining and installing the latest sound driver for your sound card. [Top]

      * I'm using Windows Vista and I have no sound on my Xfire recorded videos. I can not select my recording device. How I can fix this?

By default, Windows Vista off and hides all sound recording devices.

To enable Stereo Mix (or other recording device) in Windows Vista:

      Go to your "Control Panel."
      Double-click 'sound'.
      Click the Recording tab.
Right click on the white background of the tab and click "show" devices with disabilities.
Right click on the device that is on the list and click Enable.
Now you should be able to select this device for recording both Windows Vista and Xfire.
You will have to go to Tools Options tab | | Xfire Video and select the newly enabled device "Audio Device". The audio coming through that device will now be recorded in their videos.

It should also be aware that if you are using a headset and the sound comes through the headset, you must select the headset in the "Audio Device" in the dropdown Xfire. You can not record from both your sound card and headset at the same time.

For a visual description of how to make it Xfire see Wiki link below:
Help: Enabling disabled sound devices in Vista. (Thanks Xfire Godjonez for the design of the Wiki entry)

      * What is the Flashback video capture and use?

Flashback Video Capture is a video capture function lets you record improved video for several seconds before you press the key combination video capture.

Flashback video capture can be activated in the Xfire client, go to Tools Options tab | | Video and checking the box next to Enable the capture of Flashback. " You can store the following number of frames in memory when you start to record a video capture:

      Low - 150 frames
      Media - 300 marks
      High marks - 450
      Very high - 600 marks
Depending on your configuration of memory in use Flashback, this could be just a few seconds all the way up to a dozen or more.

Basically what this means is that if something good happens in your game (like killing an impressive streak), but you forgot to record it on video, you can still hit the keybind captured video capture part of the action you just take a few seconds in the past.

One thing to note is that Flashback Video Capture is an extremely CPU and memory intensive process. The better your PC (processor and RAM), the highest quality and resolution you can capture. Users with dual core machines and / or users with 4 GB of RAM or more notice much less than a frame rate during recording hit with Flashback enabled users machines running single-core or less than 4 GB RAM. This also means that if you already experience issue with the normal frame rate video capture without Flashback on, the game simply can not be played with flashback enabled.

      * How I can use the Xfire In-Browser Game?

The Xfire In-Game Web Browser uses an integrated version of Internet Explorer so it's very similar to a web browser may already have used.

Start a game compatible with Xfire In-Game 2.0 (mouse enabled) and the Xfire In-Game Browser. Enter the combination of a keyword in the search box or press web default web to activate the (Scroll Lock W).

      * Why I can not open the Xfire In-Game browser by pressing Scroll Lock W?

There are some reasons for Xfire In-Game browser may not work in some games. Here are some basic steps in troubleshooting to check first:

What Xfire skin are you running? At present the only officially supports skin Xfire In-Game Browser is the shadow Xfire skin (default).

First, the game must have XIG Browser support. Here is a quick test to see if the game does. Start the game from Xfire Tools | Launch. Once in the game, press X to turn Scroll Lock Xfire In-Game messaging. In the bottom left menu you will see XIG web search box. If you can click on this field and the guy there, then the browser XIG is enabled. Otherwise this field should say "disabled."

For a list of games compatible with browser XIG FAQ please refer to Item # 309.

      * Why does Xfire browser not support my favorite game yet?

Xfire is constantly adding support for the browser XIG the games more and more with each update. If your favorite game already supports XIG 2.0 (mouse enabled) is only a matter of time before adding XIG browser support for it.

      * What is required for Xfire In-Game browser to work?

The Xfire In-Game Browser uses an integrated version of Internet Explorer. You will need a working version of either IE6 or IE7 installed on your PC. * Note * Internet Explorer 8 Beta is not currently supported but may work for some.

      * How I can change the key binding to activate the Xfire In-Game Browser?

In Xfire go to Tools | Options and click the Xfire In-Game tab. Click the button Browswer Web. " Now press and hold a key as a modifier key (eg, Scroll Lock), then press another key (eg W), then release both keys to program a combination of two keys. Click OK to exit the Options menu.

Web Mode setting to press a key is possible but not recommended. It has the potential to cause conflict or confusion in their play behavior. Its key change seems to be stuck or rapidly closing Xfire are some examples.

      * I can change the homepage?

There is no option to configure a home page. We try to provide useful information about the game you are playing or possibly introduce you to an important partner for the game (example: when I was playing World of Warcraft home page can be wowwiki.com).

      * What kind of security options are built into the Xfire In-Game Browser?

From Xfire uses an integrated version of Internet Explorer, the browser XIG uses your IE security settings.

      * I can not see certain videos on the Xfire In-Game Browser (Apple Trailers, MSN Video). Why?

Currently any video into Flash must work properly. Quicktime and Windows Media Player are not currently supported. However, we are working on them for future versions of Xfire.

      * I can not open any more new tab in the Xfire In-Game Browser. What happens?

The Xfire In-Game Browser is limited to ten new tabs are opened manually from the New Tab button.

If you're browsing the tenth tab on that page and something about pop-up or open in a new window, the Xfire In-Game browser will open the URL in a new tab for you.

      * What games support Xfire In-Game Browser?

All games have Xfire In-Game 2.0 enabled unless otherwise noted.
